Federal Reserve Decision (Wednesday): 🤔
Markets expect the Fed to hold rates steady following 3 consecutive cuts from September through December.
I agree the FED will hold rates here. Investor focus will be squarely on Fed Chair Powell’s press conference for any hint of a renewed hawkish tilt.
Inflation Backdrop: ↗️
Recent data argues against hawkishness, with core CPI at 5-year lows and real-time inflation measures suggesting inflation is running near or below the Fed’s 2% target.
Housing Data: 🏠
The Case-Shiller Home Price Index is expected to show continued cooling. It shows home prices rising just 3.5% annually since early 2023 versus roughly 7% growth in disposable personal income, aiding affordability.
Producer Prices: 🏷️
December PPI is expected to show further easing, with headline inflation slowing to around 2.8% year-over-year.
Labor Market: 💼
ADP employment (Tuesday) and weekly jobless claims (Thursday) will help gauge whether labor conditions are cooling in line with inflation.
